Seeing Differences as Strengths

Welcome!
In the 2nd grade classroom at John Muir we are having a lot of fun with reading and writing. Our Themed Literature Unit is called Seeing Differences as Strengths. This means that for about 3 weeks we will be reading books, having conversations, and making projects that relate to our individual strengths and the strengths of the characters in our books. Our classroom is very diverse; therefore it is important to remember that we must all use our different strengths to make our community a whole! Throughout our unit we will celebrate the ways that we are similar and different from one another.

During our unit we will compare and contrast our strengths with those of the characters in our books, make inferences about how the characters, and create a final project together. From these lessons, we will be stronger readers and writers and we will also develop a stronger classroom community.

Click on the different links below to learn about the main ideas of the lesson, the books we are reading, and activities to be done at home.
